Home Made Char Siu (Chinese BBQ Pork)

It's been a while since I last blogged. Have been busy with household chores, and not sure why household chores are always never ending. Today, I am going to post my experimental receipe - Home Made Char Siu.

The Char Siu may not look like the usual Char Siu that you normally see, as I did not add any red colouring to it. This receipe is also easy, and do not require any baking or roasting at all. To my surprise, the meat is tender and juicy.

Ingredients - Serves 2

Food Ingredients:
- Shoulder butt meat cut into strips (about 250 gm)
- Honey

Ingredients for Marinate:
- 4 garlic chopped
- 5 stalks of green onion chopped
- 2 shallots, chopped (you can omit this if you do not have)
- 3 tbsp oyster sauce
- 3 tbsp light soy sauce
- 4 tsp sugar
- 3 tbsp cooking wine (I used Hua diao)
- dash of pepper
- 1 egg, beated

Cooking Directions

1) Mix all ingredients for marination togather. Put in the meat and marinate for at least 1 hour.

2) Heat up the oil and pan fry the meat in low meat.

3) When the meat starts to brown, glaze with some honey on both sides and continue to pan fry till cooked.

4) Cut the meat into pieces after the meat is cooked.

Additional notes:

1) Do not use lean meat. The texture of shoulder butt meat is just nice for Char Siu, as it has some fat in the meat.
